Braces in Kota Kinabalu
Dental braces gently straighten crooked or crowded teeth and correct your bite. At FTS Chin Dental in Likas, we fit and adjust braces (pendakap gigi) for teenagers and adults — and we’re a recognised braces & Invisalign provider in KK.
What are dental braces?
Braces are small brackets bonded to your teeth and joined by a thin wire. Over the months, the wire applies steady, gentle pressure that moves each tooth into a straighter, better-aligned position. They fix crowding, gaps, protruding front teeth and bite problems — issues that can make teeth harder to clean and knock your confidence. We offer both metal and tooth-coloured ceramic braces.
How treatment works, step by step
- A consultation and examination — often with an X-ray — so we can see exactly what needs moving.
- Dr. Esther Tan explains your options, the likely timeline, and the cost before you commit.
- We fit the braces (a comfortable, pain-free appointment) and show you how to keep them clean.
- You come in every few weeks for a quick adjustment as your teeth gradually straighten.
- When the braces come off, a retainer keeps your new smile in place.
Will it hurt?
Fitting braces is painless. It’s normal for teeth to feel tender for a day or two after fitting and after each adjustment — soft food and ordinary painkillers settle it quickly. Comfort comes first here, so we always check in and go gently.
Braces are priced per case — the fee depends on the type of braces and how much correction your teeth need. Message us on WhatsApp for a clear estimate before anything begins. We never quote a number we can’t stand behind, and we won’t start treatment until you know the cost.

Braces Cost
There's no single price for braces (pendakap gigi) in Kota Kinabalu — the cost depends on your case, the type of braces, and how long treatment takes. Metal braces are the most affordable option, ceramic sits in the middle, and clear aligners like Invisalign cost the most. At FTS Chin Dental we quote your exact fee after an assessment, and most patients pay in monthly instalments.
Read the guide →Invisalign vs Braces
Braces are fixed to your teeth and can correct almost any case, including complex bite problems, while Invisalign uses clear removable aligners that are nearly invisible and easy to clean. Braces cost less and need no discipline to work; Invisalign looks better and is more comfortable but only suits mild to moderate cases and relies on you wearing them 20–22 hours a day. The right choice depends on your case, your budget, and your lifestyle.

Is this right for you?
Every mouth is different. Braces may not be appropriate for every patient, and any treatment is conditional on a satisfactory clinical assessment being carried out first. Our dentist will examine you, explain your options, and tell you honestly if a different treatment — or no treatment — would serve you better. The information on this page is general and is not a diagnosis or a substitute for a consultation.
